Abstract

In modern conditions of globalization of all spheres of education, a simple knowledge of a foreign language is no longer so relevant; the skill of a creative approach to the information received and its further integration into practice becomes more important. The level of relevance of teaching a foreign language is enhanced by the fact that in the modern education system of Kazakhstani society, despite numerous reforms and innovations, the issue of a qualitative systematic approach to teaching reading, including academic, as a whole remains open. Only a small percentage of students possess the skills of thoughtful reading with an understanding of all the information contained in the text. Effective algorithms for teaching academic reading are needed. The purpose of this article is to analyze the existing methods for teaching academic reading and evaluate their effectiveness in non-linguistic specialties of higher educational institutions.
